today, Susan keeps those family favorites, crescent cookies and other Hungarian Pastries supplied during the holiday season...
the temperature for these is indeed 250 degrees for 50 minutes...this produces an airy ,melt in your mouth confection...keep stored in a tin with tight lid, wax paper in between layers...
4 egg whites ...set out 30 minutes to room temperature for more volume..
beat until stiff peaks form..
gradually beat in 2 cups granulated sugar, a few tablespoons at a time
add 3 Tab. cornstarch, keep beating....
3 Tab .white vinegar, keep beating... and then 1 tsp good vanilla...
beat until very stiff and thick..
fold in 1 lb chopped walnuts or pecans..
drop by Tablespoon onto parchment-lined cookie sheets. Bake at 250 degrees for 50 minutes..
makes 50 to 75 cookies..
