Irish Gingerbread

2-1/2 C. all-purpose flour
3 T. ground ginger
l T. baking soda
2 tsp. ground cinnamon
1/2 tsp. ground cloves
1/4 tsp. salt
1 C. unsalted butter, softened
1-1/2 C. firmly packed dark brown sugar
2 large eggs
1 C. molasses
3/4 C. Irish stout beer (flat and at room temperature)
Powdered sugar

Recipe
Sift together dry ingredients in medium bowl set aside. In large mixer bowl, beat butter and brown sugar with electric mixer until light and fluffy. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition. Beat in molasses and beer. Add flour mixture, one-third at a time, beating well with each addition. Pour batter into greased and floured 9 x 13 pan, smoothing top of batter. Bake in 350 degree oven for 30 to 40 minutes, or until wooden pick inserted in center comes out clean. Cool in pan on wire rack. Sift powdered sugar over top. Cut into squares and serve with whipped cream, or ice cream. Makes 12-15 servings.
