Recipe Introduction
Jefferson Memorial Volunteers
St. Louis , Missouri
Note from Carol:
Double this and take copies of the recipe with you. Fair warning!! Don't know how well it keeps, there is never any left. Jefferson Memorial at Forest Park Entrance has undergone many changes in the last 20 years. The Rotunda that was covered but open to the weather has been enclosed with glass. The inside exhibition halls, refurbished.. downstairs theatre, meeting rooms, offices, storage...lovely public spaces available for rental to lucky brides, outdoor patio, restaurant and gift shop, classroom spaces. This isn't your mother's Jefferson Memorial anymore...it is now known as the History Museum and even has off-site facilities for storage and use of scholars. Their Charles Lindbergh , Spirit of St. Louis aviator, collection is astounding. Years ago there was a tiny space right off the rotunda called the Country Store that sold postcards, guide books and more importantly, penny candy to school children who trooped over for their annual field trip. If your class behaved, the Docent would take you to the Country Store to buy your candy treats. Classes whose behavior did not meet the standards of the docent [always older retired matrons] were escorted directly to the terrace where school busses were parked, in Monopoly terms. Do not pass GO. The volunteers had occasional luncheons and fundraisers...this recipe is from one of those gatherings. It is a favorite and always gets requests for copies.
