    1 lb unsliced round loaf sourdough bread..
    cut lengthwise and crosswise without cutting through bottom crust..
    insert slices of Monterey Jack cheese in cuts.
    uses about 1 lb..
    place bread on a large sheet of aluminum foil on a baking sheet..

    Mix 1/2 cup melted butter
    1/2 cup finely chopped green onion
    [include some green stem]
    1 Tab. poppy seeds
    Drizzle over bread..

    wrap in foil..bake for 15 minutes in a preheated 350 degree oven..
    uncover and bake 10 minutes longer or until cheese is melted..

    NOTE from Carol;
    the direcions might sound confusing..what you are doing is cutting "pockets" all over to hold slices of cheese and to provide places for all that melted butter to hide...

    this is a truly scrumptious treat..
    unless there are only 3 or 4 people,
    one loaf will not suffice..Men especially like this..
