Recipe Introduction
Pizza, believed to have evolved from Egyptian flat bread, became popular in the United States after American soldiers craved it following their tour of duty in Italy during World War II.
The word means "pie," but has come to represent a round savory tart made with a crisp yeast dough covered with tomato sauce, mozzarella cheese and other ingredients such as peppers, onions, pepperoni, mushrooms and anchovies.
The Anchor Bar in Buffalo originated the dish of deep-fried chicken wings served in a spicy hot sauce and accompanied by blue-cheese dressing. And this tried-and-true combination is a delicious topping to pizza. Add a salad and dinner is served.
List of Ingredients
2 cups cooked cubed chicken
2 1/2 to 3 tbsp. hot cayenne pepper sauce (more or less, as desired)
1 tbsp. melted butter
1 (12-inch) pizza crust
1/2 cup pizza sauce
1 cup shredded mozzarella
1/4 cup diced celery (optional)
1/4 cup blue cheese dressing
Recipe
Preheat oven to 400 degrees. In medium bowl, combine chicken, hot cayenne pepper sauce and butter. Place crust on a baking sheet. Spread with pizza sauce and top with chicken mixture, cheese and celery. Bake 15 to 18 minutes or until crust is golden brown. Drizzle with dressing. Cut into wedges to serve. Makes eight servings.
