List of Ingredients
1 Italian Sponge Cake (Recipe follows)
1 Recipe Zabaglione (Recipe follows) or Vanilla pudding, cooled
Chocolate pudding, cooled (optional)
Sliced Strawberries
Whipped Cream
Toasted Slivered Almonds
Rum or Rum with syrup water
Italian Sponge Cake
Ingredients:

8 egg yolks
8 egg whites
2 teaspoons grated lemon rind
2 teaspoons almond extract
1 1/3 cups flour
1 1/4 cups sugar
1 ½ tablespoons water
1/4 teaspoon salt
Zabaglione (Marsala Custard)
Ingredients:
=========
8 egg yolks
1/4 cup sugar
1 cup marsala wine
2 tablespoons brandy
1 tablespoon water
Recipe
Slice the sponge cake horizontally into at least three layers. Sprinkle the rum or rum/syrup mixture over the bottom layer until fairly moist. Spread Zabaglione or Vanilla pudding Place strawberries over the Zabaglione or pudding Place the middle cake layer over the strawberries Sprinkle the cake layer with more rum or rum/mixture until fairly moist. Spread with chocolate pudding. Place Top layer of cake over the chocolate pudding. Sprinkle with more rum or rum/sugar water mixture. Cover and decorate cake with whipped cream. Push slivered almonds into side of cake. Let the cake sit for at least a couple of hours in the refrigerator until rum saturates.
Italian Sponge Cake
Directions:

Sift ½ cup sugar with the flour. Place egg yolks, water and grated lemon rind in a bowl. Beat lightly. Add almond extract. Sift flour lightly over beaten egg yolks and fold in gently. Place egg whites in another bowl and beat until foamy. Add salt and remainder of the sugar. Beat until stiff. Gently fold the egg whites into the flour mixture. Pour into baking dish. Bake 45 minutes until cake separates from sides of pan. Leave in pan 1 hour until cold.
Hints: Use a tube pan and invert over a long-necked bottle to cool.
Zabaglione (Marsala Custard)
Directions:
========
Place egg yolks in sugar in the top part of a double boiler. Beat well with wire whisk. Add wine and brandy and beat well. Add water and beat well. Place the pan over hot water, beat or stir until mixture thickens. DO NOT LET IT BOIL.
