Split Pea Soup with Ham (IP or Crockpot)

Perfect!!!!
Suggestion: Makes enough to just serve 6. We usually make 1 1/2 times amount or even double recipe for leftovers.
List of Ingredients
2 quarts water
2 cups split peas, washed, (1 pkg.)
1 smoked ham hock, , or ham bone or 1 C diced ham**
1 pkg. Lipton Onion Soup Mix, , or 1 small onion, diced
2 tsp. chicken bouillon
2 bay leaves
2 tsp. garlic powder
1 cup white wine
dash red pepper, , the pkgs. from pizza is perfect
2 medium carrots, diced
1/4 tsp. pepper
1 tsp. white vinegar, *secret ingredient!
Recipe
INSTANT POT:
*Do not use wine if using Instant Pot*
Place all ingredients in pot.
Cook on "Bean" setting for 35 minutes or "Manual" for 15 minutes.
Use the natural release method.
Stir or use immersion blender if desired.
Add vinegar just before serving.
CROCKPOT:
Combine all ingredients in crockpot.
Cover and cook on HIGH 4 to 5 hours or on low 8 to 10 hours until peas are very soft
Add vinegar just before serving.
* Vinegar makes the soup!
