I am guessing this recipe is from the WWII era when many foods were rationed.
Use your best judgement on what pan size to use, as none was included. I used 3 loaf pans. This is a tasty and thrifty cake/bread that makes the house smell wonderful when baking.
List of Ingredients
1 # Raisins
1 qt Water
1 # Brown Sugar
3 T Shortening
1/2 t Cloves
1/2 t Cinnamon
1/2 t Nutmeg (freshly grated, if possible)
1 t Baking Soda
3 1/2 C Flour
2 t Baking Powder
Recipe
In dutch oven, boil raisins in water, cool slightly, then add other ingredients in order given. Bake in 350 F. oven about an hour or until cake tests done.
