    Sour Beans

    Source of Recipe

Recipe was handed down From Susie Hatvany to Frank Hatvany who Gave it to his Wife Deloris Hatvany who passed it down to me Their Daughter Jackie

    Recipe Introduction

This is a Austrian/Hungarian Recipe that my Grandmother brought with her when she traveled from her Home in Austria/Hungry and came to the United States

    List of Ingredients

    • 3 quarts of Green Beans
    • 3 quarts of Yellow Wax Beans
    • 1 pound bacon
    • 3 tablespoons flour
    • 1/4 cup vinegar

    Instructions

    1. Place the beans into a large pot and add the vinegar. Allow to heat on a low temperature until the rest of the ingreadients are ready
    2. Chop the bacon into bite size pieces and fry until crisp. The bacon needs to be crisp because it will become less crisp when placed into the beans
    3. When the bacon is cooked add the flour to the bacon and bacon grease and make a rou. You can add more if needed
    4. Add to the beans a cook on a medium heat until the beans have a thick gravy

    Final Comments

For a quick and easy meal make boiled or mashed potatoes and rolls with the sour beans. Or use as a side dish for your Thanksgiving, Christmas, Easter or other Holiday meal.
