Flour Tortillas
Source of Recipe
I made this up myself.
List of Ingredients
- 4 cups of all purpose flour
- 1 1/2 tsp baking powder
- 1 1/2 cups warm water
- 1 1/2 tsp salt or No Salt salt
- 4 TBLS shortening (Crisco) or lard
Instructions
- Put all of the dry ingerdients in a bowl.
- Cut in the shortening adding a small amount of water at a time to make the dough.
- Knead the dough until it is elastic and has no lumps.
- Set this aside with a cover for about 10-15 minutes. Depending on how hungry you are. :-)
- Then take some dough and roll into a ball with your palms. The larger the ball, the larger the tortilla will be.
- On a floured surface, roll out your tortilla to the size you want. About 1/8" is great!
- Heat your ungreased skillet on medium high and cook until the tortilla is speckled, about 2-3 minutes for each one.
- Serve right away, or freeze for later in freezer plastic bags.
- *HINT* Use wax paper between frozen tortillas.
- FROZEN: You can reheat just like regular. Skillet or microwave to heat up, approx. 1 minute for about 6 tortillas.
Final Comments
You can put peanut butter and all kinds of good stuff in a tortilla.
