    A peach pudding with nutmeg and lemon juice.


    List of Ingredients


    • 2 cups milk
    • 4 cups cubed or torn stale bread
    • 2 eggs, seperated
    • 3/4 cup sugar, divided
    • 1/4 tsp salt
    • 1/4 tsp nutmeg
    • grated lemon peel
    • juice of 1 lemon
    • 2 TBLS melted butter or margarine
    • 1/4 tsp cream of tarter
    • peach halves, drained


    Instructions


    1. Pour milk over bread cubes.
    2. Beat egg yolks with 1/2 cup sugar, salt and nutmeg; add lemon grated rind, juice and melted butter.
    3. Pour mixture over bread and milk.
    4. Mix and pour into well-greased 9x9x2 inch baking dish.
    5. Place dish in a pan of hot water.
    6. Bake at 350 F for 45 minutes.
    7. Beat egg whites with cream of tarter until soft peaks form.
    8. Gradually add 1/4 cup sugar, beating until stiff peaks form.
    9. Remove pudding from oven and spread meringue over top.
    10. Place peach halves over meringue, close to edge.
    11. Bake at 375 F for 15 minutes to brown meringue.
    12. Serve peach pudding warm.
    13. Serves 6
