Basic White Bread (1 1/2 lb loaf)

This is the first recipe I ever made in my bread machine and its still one of my favorites. One of the things I learned was that almost every machine bread recipe does well with only 1 tsp. of yeast!! Yeah... that surprised me too!

    List of Ingredients

    1 c. milk (see note)
    1/4 c. water
4 tsp. oil, butter or margarine
    3 c. bread flour
    4 tsp. sugar
    3/4 tsp. salt
1 tsp. bread machine yeast OR active dry yeast

    Recipe

All ingredients should be at room temperature.
Place milk, water, oil, sugar and salt into the baking pan. Next pour the flour in and make a "well" in the top. Place the yeast in the "well".
Place the pan into your bread maker, close the lid and plug it in.
    Bread Machine settings:
    Basic
    Crust color = your preference
Time should be set for 3 hours

After about 3-5 minutes check the dough. It should be a relatively smooth ball of dough. If its too dry, it will form chunks and even second balls. In that case, add more water 1 teaspoon at a time until firm smooth ball forms. If the dough is too wet when you check it, it will be soft and "gooey" which can be remedied by adding addition flour about 1 tbls. at a time until smooth firm ball of dough forms.
Once thats done clean up the mess and your done.

Be sure to use good pot holders to remove it from the pan and place it on a rack when the baking is complete. Allow to cool at least 10 minutes before cutting.

Note: I use 1 c. water and 1/3 c. dry powdered milk for my bread making in place of the fresh milk.
