    Soft Sugar Cookies

    Source of Recipe

    An old cookbook

    Recipe Introduction

This has probably been our favorite for over 25 years. Add nuts, chips, raisins, dates or whatever for variation.

    List of Ingredients

    1/2 c. butter
    1 1/2 c. sugar
    2 eggs
    1 tsp. vanilla
    3 c. sifted flour
    1 tsp. salt
    1/2 tsp. baking powder
    1/2 tsp. baking soda
    1 c. dairy sour cream
    cinnamon sugar mixture

Optional: nuts, dates, raisins, craisins, chips of any flavor including chocolate and white.

    Recipe

1-Cream butter to consistency of mayonnaise
2-Add sugar gradually, while continuing to cream.
3-Add eggs 1 at a time, beating well after each addition.
4-Add vanilla. Beat until light and fluffy.
5-Mix and sift dry ingredients together.
6-Alternately add flour and sour cream to this mixture, beginning and ending with dry ingredients.

(For 3 inch cookies, drop by heaping teaspoons onto a well greased cookie sheet leaving room to spread. With spatula, flatten into circles about 2 inches in diameter.)

(For big 5 inch cookies, use 1/4 cup of batter for each cookie and flatten to 5 inches. Sprinkle each with cinnamon sugar mix.)

7-Bake in hot oven, 400° for around 10-12 minutes until lightly browned.

Note: For Chocolate Sugar Cookies: Add 2 squares (2 oz.) unsweetened chocolate (not cocoa powder) to the creamed mixture and proceed as above.

Yield: Makes about 30 cookies 3 inches in diameter or 18 cookies 5 inches in diameter.
