    Amish Friendship Bread

In a large zip lock bag, combine:

    1 cup of flour
    1 cup of sugar
    1 cup of milk

DO NOT USE A METAL BOWL OR SPOON FOR MIXING! It is normal for the batter to thicken, bubble and ferment.

Day 1---this is the day you mix the starter or receive the starter from a friend.
    Day 2---squeeze the bag
    Day 3---squeeze the bag
    Day 4---squeeze the bag
    Day 5---squeeze the bag
    Day 6---Add:

    1 cup of flour
    1 cup of sugar
    1 cup of milk

    Day 7---Squeeze the bag
    Day 8---Squeeze the bag
    Day 9---Squeeze the bag
Day 10--Combine in a large bowl:

    Batter
    1 cup of flour
    1 cup of sugar
    1 cup of milk

Mix with a wooden spoon or spatula. This is now your starter to share. Take 3 large zip lock bags and place 1 cup of your starter in each bag. Keep one for yourself, give the other two to friends with the instructions. Still on day 10, to the batter remaining in the bowl add:

    1 cup of oil
    1 cup of sugar
    1 teaspoon vanilla
    3 large eggs
    1-1/2 teaspoons baking powder
    1/2 teaspoon salt
    2 cups flour
    1/2 cup milk
    1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1 large box of vanilla pudding
    2 teaspoons cinnamon.

Pour into two large well greased and sugared (you can use cinnamon sugar) loaf pans. Bake at 325 for one hour. You can add 1 cup of chopped nuts and 1/2 cups of raisins.

We have experimented with different flavorings and fruits with success. The starter can be frozen but must be brought back to room temperature before proceeding with day 1 or day 6.
