Frosted Coffee Creams
Marvel Sanders of Morgantown, IN served this many times to my family. I never knew the name, but could recognize the aroma as soon as I entered her kitchen. Have some friends over for coffee and serve this.
List of Ingredients
- Cake Ingredients:
- 1/2 cup butter
- 1/2 cup white sugar
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 2 eggs
- 1 1/2 cups flour
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon ginger
- 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
- 1/2 cup strong coffee, cold
- 1/2 cup chopped nuts (optional)
- 1 teaspoon vanilla

- Frosting Ingredients:
- 1/2 cup butter, softened
- 2 cups powdered sugar
- 1/4 cup strong coffee, cold
- pinch salt
Instructions
- Cream together the 1/2 cup butter, white sugar and brown sugar.
- Beat in the 2 eggs, one at a time.
- Sift together the flour, salt, b. powder, b. soda, cinnamon, ginger and nutmeg.
- Add the dry ingredients alternately with the cold coffee.
- Add the vanilla and the nuts.
- Spread the mixture into a greased shallow pan (10 1/2 X 15 1/2) (will be about 1/4 in thick in the pan)
- Bake at 350 degrees F for 25 minutes (or less)
- While cake is baking, cream the butter with the powdered sugar, stir in the coffee and salt.
- Frost cake while hot.
