Traditional Bread Sticks
Put these in a vase shaped basket, or a tall vase, and your pasta party will be a hit, even if you've burned the sauce.
List of Ingredients
- 3 to 3 1/2 cups all purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon dry yeast
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 cup vegetable oil
- 1 1/4 cup hot water (125 F)
Instructions
- Combine 1 cup flour, yeast, sugar and salt in heavy-duty mixing bowl
- Blend in oil
- Add water and beat until well blended, about 2 minutes
- Gradually beat in enough of remaining flour to make a soft, but not sticky dough.
- Turn dough out onto lightly floured surface and knead until smooth, about 1 minute
- Remove oven racks and line with foil; grease foil.
- Divide dough in half
- Roll each log into a 10- inch log. Cut log into 1- inch pieces. Cut each piece in half.
- Repeat with remaining dough.
- Roll each piece into 14-inch stick
- Arrange on prepared foil
- Preheat oven to 300F
- Let rise in warm draft-free area until light and puffy, about 25 minutes.
- Slide racks into center position of oven. Bake bread sticks until golden brown, about 45 minutes.
