    Brownies

    This recipe came to my attention in the late 40’s. After several years, I lost the recipe, these are the best brownies. It appeared again, in a book by Helen Gurly Brown, in the late 50’s.You cannot imagine my delight.

    1/3 cup butter
    2 ounces bitter (baking) chocolate
    1 cup sugar
    2 eggs
    1/2 teaspoon vanilla
    3/4 cup flour
    1/2 cup chopped nuts

    Preheat oven to 375 F.
    Grease and flour an 8 inch square pan.

    Melt the butter and chocolate over low heat.
    Add the sugar, mix thoroughly.
    Add the eggs, and vanilla, mix well.
    Stir in flour.
    Stir in chopped nuts.
    Spread into prepared pan.
    Bake 25 minutes, do not over bake.
