1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup brown sugar
1 cup shortening -- part butter
1 egg
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 teaspoon cream of tartar
2 cups flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon baking soda
Recipe
Cream sugar, brown sugar and shortening. Add vanilla and egg. Blend until fluffy. Add the dry ingredients; blend.
Roll teaspoonfuls into balls.
Dip into water and then into granulated sugar. Lay on cookie sheet, sugar side up, then flatten with a glass. Bake at 350 degrees for 10 minutes.
