    Thank you, Phil, for sharing this recipe. I've tried a number of speghetti sauce recipes and this is the best! Next time I make it I'll double the recipe and freeze several portions for later use.

    List of Ingredients




    1 lb. lean grd beef
    2 med. onions, chopped or thinly sliced
    2-1lb. cans whole tomatoes, broken up
    2 sm.cans tomato sauce, 8oz.
    1 sm. can tomato paste or puree
    1 cup water
    1/2 cup good red wine*
    1 clove garlic, minced
    1 Tablespoon parsley, or 1/2 cup fresh, minced
    1/2 teaspoon oregano
    1 teaspoon each bouquet garni, sweet basil leaves(crushed)
    1 large bay leaf
    1 generous Tablespoon sugar
    1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
    mushrooms, if desired
    salt and pepper to taste

    Recipe



    Brown onions in olive oil til golden, add beef and brown. Add the rest of
    the ingredients and cook all day, stirring occasionally. The last hour cook
    uncovered so it will cook down to a thick sauce.
    It is better the next day, and it does freeze well.
