    When you need a substitute ingredient...

    This happens to us all. We are in the middle of preparing a recipe and something we thought we had on hand isn't there. The list below gives a few substitutes that you can use that help in a pinch.

    When you need:
    Baking Powder 1 teaspoon Use 1/2 tsp. of cream of tarter + 1/4 tsp. baking soda.

    Buttermilk 1 cup 1 tsp. vinegar + enough milk to equal 1 cup.

    Cake Flour 1 cup 7/8 of a cup of All-Purpose Flour

    Cornstarch 1 cup 2 T. of All-Purpose Flour

    Dark Corn Syrup 1 cup 3/4 cup light corn syrup + 1/4 cup molasses

    Garlic Salt 1 tsp. 1/8 tsp. of Garlic Powder + 7/8 tsp. of Salt

    Half and Half 1 cup 1 T. melted butter + enough whole milk( see whole milk) to equal 1 cup

    Honey 1 cup 1 1/4 cups of regular sugar + 1/4 cup liquid

    Semisweet Choc. 1 ounce 3 T. semisweet choc chips + 1 T. sugar

    Sour Cream 1 cup 1 cup plain yogurt

    Tapioca 2 tsps. 1 T. All-Purpose Flour

    Unswtd.Choc. 1 ounce 3 T. cocoa + 1 T. shortening

    Whole Milk 1 cup 1/2 cup evaporated milk + 1/2 cup wate
