    Recipe

If you've never used your Crock-Pot to bake in, your in for a real treat. The Crock-Pot comes in handy especially during those hot summer months when you don't want to heat up the house with your oven on.

There are many ways to use your Crock-Pot to bake. My favorite is a wonderful item by RIVAL called the Bread'n Cake Bake Pan. If you don't have one, and you want to do this I recommend it. It makes it easier to bake. But, it's not necessary you have this to use your Crock-Pot to bake.

HINTS FOR BAKING IN YOUR CROCK-POT:

Do not overheat breads and cakes-follow the instructions.

Always allow the breads or cakes to cool for about 5 minutes in pan.

    Always bake on HIGH.

Remember when baking breads to always cover the container witha lid or foil.

Use a metal trivet if listed in the recipe to do so. If you don't have one crumple some foil and make one. NOTE: All things baked in crock don't require a trivet. The Bread'n Cake Bake Pan doesn't require a rack.

If listed in the recipe to add two cups of water in the bottom to provide steam for bread, do it. If it's not mentioned then it's not needed.

Usually it's not a good idea to test for doneness until after the first 2 hours.

Just like the oven...if the toothpick comes out clean it's done!

Covering cakes with paper towels instead of metal or foil helps absorb moisture.

Leave lid of crock slightly off to allow moisture to escape.

Try the container in crock first. Before you begin you want to make sure it's going to fit.

Some ideas for molds: 2lb. Coffee Can, 2 1lb. Coffee Cans, 3 16 ounce Veggie Cans 6-7 cup Mold, 1 1/2qt. Baking Dish

When using foil as a lid, remember to secure with string around the container.

You can adapt your own recipes to use in the Crock-Pot, just remember to use similar quanties and types of items found in recommended recipes.
