Linda's note: I have never made this with sour milk. I've always used buttermilk. It's absolutely delicious! I always serve it with cream cheese - plain if I don't have company - fruited cream cheese if I do!
List of Ingredients
2 C. sifted whole wheat flour
1 1/2 tsp. baking powder
1 1/2 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. salt
1 C. yellow cornmeal
1 C. chopped nuts
3/4 C. dark molasses
2 C. buttermilk or sour milk
1 C. raisins
3 lb. coffee can
Recipe
Stir together flour, soda, baking powder and salt. Stir in cornmeal. Add remaining ingredients and beat well. Pour batter into greased and floured coffee can. Pour 2 cups water into crockpot and set can inside. Place aluminum foil over cooker and fold down around edge. Cover and bake on HIGH for 4 to 5 hours. Remove and let cool 1 hour before unmolding.
Serve with your favorite fruited cream cheese spread or plain cream cheese.
