    Candy Apples

    List of Ingredients

    8 sweet red apples
    2 cups granulated sugar
    1 cup water
    1/2 cup corn syrup
    1/4 tsp Red food colouring

    Recipe

    My kids always liked cinnamon, so what I do is boil 1 + 1/4 cup water with a cinnamon stick.

    When it reduces to a cup of water take the stick out and follow instructions:

    Place a stick in the stem removed end of apple. In a large 1-12 qt. heavy bottom pan place the sugar, water and corn syrup. Cook stirring the sugar till dissolved, med. heat. Increase heat to med-high and bring to a boil, brushing down side of pan occasionally with a brush dipped in hot water to prevent crystallization. Keep doing this for 15 - 25 min. to the sage of soft-crack 290*F on candy thermometer or until 1/2 tsp syrup dropped into cold water separates into hard but pliable threads. Remove syrup from heat and stir in red colouring. Immediately plunge bottom of pan into cold water for about 15 seconds, until sizzling stops.

    Take an apple and with the pan tilted swirl each apple to coat well. Place apple on cookie sheet covered with wax paper, and let stand at least 30 minutes to harden.
