Chocolate Sundae Cookies

List of Ingredients
1 1/2 C. all-purpose flour
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 C. shortening
1 unbeaten egg
1/4 C. maraschino cherry juice
2 T. milk
1/4 C. maraschino cherries, chopped
18 marshmallows, cut in half
1/2 C. chopped walnuts
2/3 C. brown sugar
1/2 tsp. salt
2 (1 oz.) squares unsweetened chocolate, melted
Recipe
Sift together flour, soda and salt and set aside.
Add brown sugar gradually to shortening, creaming well. Blend in unbeaten egg and beat well. Stir in half the dry ingredients. Add maraschino cherry juice and milk, then stir in the remaining dry ingredients. Mix well. Blend in melted unsweetened chocolate, walnuts and chopped maraschino cherries. By rounded teaspoonsful drop onto ungreased cookie sheet. Bake at 350ºF for 12 to 15 minutes.
Place marshmallows cut-side down on hot cookies. Cool on rack. Frost with your favorite chocolate frosting; top each cookie with a nut half.
Icing:
2 T. butter
2 blocks Hershey's chocolate
3 T. milk
1 1/2 C. confectioners' sugar
1/2 tsp. vanilla extract
Pinch of salt
Melt butter and chocolate in top of double boiler, stir until blended. Stir milk into sugar and beat until smooth. Add vanilla extract, salt and chocolate mixture. Beat until smooth and thickened.
