Amount Measure Ingredient -- Preparation Method
    -------- ------------ --------------------------------
    2 slices bread -- cubed
    1 1/2 cups beer
    1 pound lean ground beef
    black pepper -- freshly ground
    1 tablespoon butter
    1/2 cup onion -- chopped
    2 tablespoons brown sugar
    2 tablespoons vinegar
    2 tablespoons beef stock
1 tablespoon flour (up to 2 tablespoons)

Soak bread cubes in 1/2 cup beer. Combine ground beef with pepper and soaked bread. Mix well and form into 36 small meatballs. Arrange in single layer on a cookie sheet and bake 15 minutes. Meanwhile, saute onions in butter until tender. Stir in the sugar, vinegar, beef stock, and remaining beer. Thicken with flour. Simmer over low heat 10 minutes.

When meatballs are done, drain on paper towels to remove fat. Then add to sauce and simmer 20 minutes. Serve with toothpicks.

Makes 36 meatballs (3 meatballs each serving)
