Brownie Sundaes

1 stick butter (1/2 cup) -- softened
3/4 cup sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
2 large eggs -- room temperature
3/4 cup all-purpose flour
1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
FUDGE SAUCE:
1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup half-and-half
1/4 cup light corn syrup
3 tablespoons stick butter -- cut up
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1/8 teaspoon salt

2 pints vanilla ice cream
sweetened whipped cream -- for garnish
maraschino cherries -- for garnish
Heat oven to 350 degrees F. Line an 8-inch square baking pan with foil, letting ends extend above pan on two sides. Grease foil in pan.
Beat butter, sugar, vanilla, and baking powder in a medium bowl with mixer on medium speed until fluffy. Beat in eggs until blended. On low speed, beat in flour and cocoa. Spread in pan. Bake 20 to 25 minutes until a wooden pick inserted near center comes out clean. Cool in pan on a wire rack.
FOR SAUCE: Whisk cocoa and sugar to blend in a saucepan or microwave-safe bowl. Stir in remaining ingredients. Bring to a boil, whisking occasionally until smooth.
To serve: Lift brownie from pan; cut in 9 squares. Place in dessert dishes. Top with ice cream, warm sauce, whipped cream, and a cherry.
Per serving: 470 calories, 6 g protein, 62 g carbohydrates, 3 g fiber, 24 g fat, 116 mg cholesterol, 280 mg sodium.
