Italian Noodle Pudding Dessert

1 pound pkg of wide egg noodles
3 tablespoons butter or margarine
3 cups milk or half and half
4 eggs
1 cup ricotta cheese
1/4 cup sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 teaspoon almond extract
1/2 cup candied cherries diced
1/2 cup toasted sliced almonds
Cook noodles and drain well. Place in a well buttered oblong pan (9 x 13 inches).
Mix eggs, milk, cheese, sugar and flavorings until smooth. Blend in fruits and nuts. Place over noodles and smooth top. Bake 325 F about 45 minutes or until topping is set. Serve warm room temp or cold with a dollop of sweetened whipped cream.
