Mango Raita With Dates

1/2 teaspoon cumin seeds
2 cups Balkan-style plain yogurt
8 dates -- pitted and chopped
1 mango -- peeled and cubed
4 teaspoons lime juice
1 tablespoon fresh mint -- chopped
or
1 tablespoon coriander -- chopped
1/4 teaspoon salt
In small skillet, toast cumin seeds over medium heat until beginning to darken, about 1 minute; let cool. With side of knife, coarsely crush seeds; set aside.
In small bowl, stir together yogurt, dates, mango, lime juice, mint and salt. (Make-ahead: Cover and refrigerate for up to 24 hours.) Sprinkle with cumin seeds.
Makes 2 cups
