Amount Measure Ingredient -- Preparation Method
-------- ------------ --------------------------------
2 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon grated nutmeg
1/2 cup soft brown sugar
6 tablespoons butter -- melted
2 tables -- brandy
40 walnut halves
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Lightly grease 2 cookie sheets.
Sift the flour, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg into a bowl. In another bowl, beat the eggs, sugar, butter, and brandy until smooth. Add this mixture gradually to the flour mixture, beating well.
Break the dough into 1-inch balls. Mold the balls into cone shapes that resemble mountain peaks. Arrange peaks on cookie sheets. Stick a walnut half on top of each "peak." Bake cookies for 15 minutes, or until golden brown. Cool on a rack.
Judi's notes: These cookies are baked by Sephardic Jews for Shavuot. They are made to celebrate Moses' receiving the commandments on Mount Sinai. You can substitute margarine for the butter if you want to make the cookies pareve (prepared without meat, milk or their derivatives).
