Recipe Introduction
For many southerners, grits is pure comfort food. I love grits even though I was born in New York. It is filling, full of flavor, and is good for any meal of the day. /jmp
2 cups half-and-half
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/8 teaspoon garlic powder
1/8 teaspoon black pepper
1/2 cup quick grits -- uncooked
2 ounces cream cheese -- softened and cubed
3/4 cup Jarlsberg cheese -- shredded
or
3/4 cup sharp Cheddar cheese -- shredded
1/4 teaspoon hot sauce
In a large saucepan over medium-high heat, combine the half-and-half, salt, garlic powder, and pepper. Just as the mixture comes to a boil, gradually stir in the grits. Return to a boil, cover, and reduce the heat to low. Simmer 5 to 7 minutes, or until thick.
Remove from the heat and add the cream cheese, Jarlsberg, and hot sauce, stirring until the cheeses melt. Serve immediately.
