    GBN: Green Beans with Caramelized Onion

    1 pound fresh green beans
    2 medium-size sweet onions, halved and
    -- thinly sliced
    2 tablespoons butter or margarine
    2 tablespoons brown sugar
    1 teaspoon balsamic vinegar (optional)
    -- (up to 2 teaspoons)

    Cook green beans in boiling water to cover 15 minutes; drain. Chill overnight, if desired.

    Cook onion in a nonstick skillet over medium-high heat 8 to 10 minutes. (Do not stir.) Cook, stirring often, 5 to 10 minutes or until golden brown. Reduce heat to medium; stir in butter and brown sugar. Add green beans; cook 5 minutes or until thoroughly heated. Toss with vinegar, if desired.

    Makes 4 servings.

    Cook: 25 minutes
