    Recipe Introduction

Grandma used to slice the apples and arrange them beautifully in a circular pattern however I have found that I get more filling in them by chopping and mounding the mixed filling. Also, if desired, I have included a topping. It was not used most of the time but occasionally it is good too.

    List of Ingredients

    • 5 apples, peeled and cored, then chopped
    • 1 1/4 cup sugar
    • 1 tablespoon cinnamon
    • 5 tablespoons flour
    • 6 tablespoons heavy whipping cream or canned evaporated milk
    • Streusel topping (if desired)
    • 1 cup flour
    • 1 teaspoon baking powder
    • 1/2 cup chopped nuts
    • 1/3 cup packed brown sugar
    • 3 tablespoons butter

    Instructions

    1. In a 2 cup measuring cup, mix the sugar, flour, and cinnamon.
    2. In a medium mixing bowl, combine the chopped apples with the sugar/cinnamon mixture. Toss well so they are evenly coated.
    3. Mound the mixture in a prepared pie crust.
    4. Spoon the cream or milk over the apples till it is just visible around the edge. Don't add too much as it will contribute to boil over while cooking. It does make for a moist pie.
    5. If streusel desired, mix the flour, baking powder, brown sugar and nuts. Work in the softened butter till crumbly.
    6. Sprinkle over the apples. This does make for a moister pie and may not need the milk at all if using it.
    7. Bake at 350 for about 50 minutes. Let sit till cooled before cutting so it sets up nicely.
