    These are my favorite pickles. They're sweet and wonderful when served with any meal. Grandma and Mom always canned a good supply of these pickles and there was always a jar in the fridge.

    List of Ingredients




    Small pickling cucumbers
    Water
    Salt
    Alum
    Ginger
    Vinegar
    Sugar
    Cloves
    Cinnamon

    Recipe



    Stand cucumbers in salt water that will carry an egg for 10 days. Drain and put cucumbers in clear water overnight. Next day cut cucumbers into desired sizes and put in clear water overnight again. Next day boil in alum water, one tablespoon to one gallon water. Cook for 20 minutes, pour all of this in a jar and let stand overnight. Next day, boil in strong ginger water and let stand 24 hours. Next day, boil in sweetened vinegar water and pack in jars, not to tight; add cloves and cinnamon. Make syrup of 1 cup vinegar to 2 1/2 cups of sugar. Pour over pickles and seal jars.
