    Recipe Introduction

Date bars are one of my favorite snacks. The kids will love them and they're good for you (don't tell the kids this part).

    List of Ingredients

    1 Tablespoon Plain Malt Extract
    1 Cup Sugar
    6 Eggs
    1 Tablespoon Hot Water
    1 Cup Pastry Flour
    1 Teaspoon Baking Powder
    1 Pound Chopped Dates
    1 1/2 Cups Chopped Walnuts
    Powdered Sugar (Optional)

    Recipe

Dissolve malt extract in hot water, stir in sugar and cool. Blend with beaten egg yolks. Sift the flour and baking powder together and add. Stir in floured nuts and dates, fold in stiffly beaten egg whites. Pour into greased shallow pan about 3/4" thick. Bake at 300 degrees for 40 minutes. Cut into bars when cool. Roll in powdered sugar (optional).
