    Recipe Introduction

Here's a chewy, sweet raisin cookie recipe that you will love. These cookies are great anytime for any occasion.

    List of Ingredients

    1 Cup Seedless Raisins
    2 1/4 Cups Sifted All-Purpose Flour
    1 Teaspoon Salt
    1/2 Teaspoon Baking Soda
    1 1/2 Teaspoons Cinnamon
    1/2 Teaspoon Nutmeg
    1 Cup Soft Shortening
1 1/2 Cups Firmly Packed Brown Sugar
    1 Egg
    2 Tablespoons Water
2 Cups Old-Fashioned, Uncooked Rolled Oats

    Recipe

Heat oven to 375 degrees. Cover raisins with boiling water; let stand 10 minutes; drain. Mix and sift flour, salt, baking soda, cinnamon and nutmeg into bowl. Add shortening, sugar, egg and water. Beat until smooth, about 2 minutes. Stir in oats and raisins. Chill several hours. Work with 1/4 of dough at a time, keeping remainder in refrigerator. Roll out on lightly floured board or canvas to 1/4-inch thickness. Cut with floured 3-inch round cutter. Place on ungreased cookie sheets. Bake at 375 degrees for 10 to 12 minutes. Yields about 2 1/2 dozen cookies.
