    QULAQULA

    Source of Recipe

    Aline Droz/Phoebe Droz

    Recipe Introduction

This was a childhood snack for Alina growing up in Fiji.
Children should cook this as it requires working with hot oil.

    List of Ingredients

    2 cups flour
    2 tsp. baking powder
    2 large fully-ripe bananas, mashed
    2 tsp. vanilla
    1/2 c. sugar
    Water
    Vegetable oil
    Deep fry pan

    Recipe

Mix the dry ingredients together. Set aside. Mix bananas and vanilla. Mix together the two ingredients, then add water. Do not put a lot of water, you do not want it watery.
Pour oil in a pan and heat. You must have enough oil in the pan so the dough will float instead of sticking to the bottom. Do not overheat the oil; this tends to burn the qulaqula on the outside. This is the trickiest part of making qulaqula. Once, you overcome this, you will pass your test and make the best qulaqula in the future.
The qulaqula turns into nice round balls when done and is usually light.
