    Tuna Mornay

    Source of Recipe

    My family's recipe

    Recipe Introduction

I never liked tuna, little own tuna mornay. That was until i tried my aunties tuna mornay.

This recipe is very, as you go ingredients wise there are no set measurements.

    List of Ingredients

    • Butter
    • Milk
    • Flour
    • Grated cheese (lowfat)
    • Pinch of mustard powder
    • Chicken seasoning
    • 1 lemon
    • Corn kennels
    • pasta (shells or spirals)
    • Tuna (pref. blue fin in brine not oil)

    Instructions

    1. First place a saucepan of boiling water on the stove and add a small amount of pasta of your choice and cook to the packet instrutions.
In another saucepan (large) melt about a tablespoon of butter.
Then add roughly 500mls of milk give or take depending on how much mornay you are wanting to make. I tend to make a large quanity as we love it as left overs the next day.
    2. Whilst you continue to stir add small amounts of plain flour to thicken the milk, aswell as a large pinch of mustard powder and enough chicken seasoning to taste.
    3. Next add your grated cheese, an now you have a very tasty cheese sauce, (which I love to pour over my veggies). But back to the mornay.
    4. Add your corn (I tend to use frozen corn kennels but there are no set rules for this recipe)the quanity is up to you as well as i think we tend to go over board with the corn but we always say you can never have to much corn.
    5. Add you pasta to the mornay now as it should be ready if its not dont panic you can add it later.
    6. Now we add the juice of one lemon. I have used the packaged lemon juice before and thought it to bland, I definitly recommend a real lemon here.
    7. The only strict rule for this whole recipe is that the tuna has to be added LAST, give it enough time just to heat the tuna and now you are finished.
    8. One last option for this recipe, and its our favourite
is to place it in oven safe bowls that you wish to serve up in (as individual serves) and place more grated (low fat) cheese over the top and place it under the grill until the cheese turns a wonderful golden brown. Now you are ready to eat and I guarantee you a very filling meal.

    Final Comments

You can add what ever you like my cousin adds all different sorts of veggies such as peas, pumpkin etc.
