    Kit Kat Cake

    Source of Recipe

Inspired by Brigid Mary on eGullet.org

    Recipe Introduction

This is a really pretty, fun and impressive looking cake. It also tastes wonderful. The light colored and fluffly frosting makes a nice contrast to the Kit Kat bars. I made 1 1/2 of the buttercream recipe to make sure that I had enough, but I think that I would have been fine with just the full recipe.

    List of Ingredients

2 cake layers from the CI German Chocolate Cake
1 batch of CakeLove Italian Meringue Buttercream (chocolate flavored)
13 Kit Kat candy bars, separated in to individual bars (each candy bar separates into 4 individual bars)

    Recipe

You will need enough bars to march all around the sides of the cake - it looks nicer if there is a little buttercream showing between each bar - and to decorate the top with (I used 8 to decorate the top and maybe 30 to go around the sides). You also need additional chopped bars to go between the cake layers.

Bake and cool the cake layers. Prepare the buttercream. Lay one layer of the cake on a surface to frost. Frost with some of the buttercream. Top with the chopped Kit Kats and then more of the buttercream. Top with the second layer. Trim the cake and frost with the remaining buttercream. Decorate with the individual Kit Kat bars around the sides and in wagon wheel spokes on the top.

    Serves 12
