Amish Apple Pudding
List of Ingredients
1 to 1 1/3 c. sugar (depending on tartness of apples)
2/3 c. shortening
2 eggs
6 c. apples, peeled and chopped
1 c. chopped nuts
2 c. flour
2 tsp. baking soda
2 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. nutmeg
Cream sugar and shortening. Add eggs, one at a time, beating after each. Stir in chopped apples and nuts. Combine flour, soda and spices. Add to apple mixture and mix well. Spread in greased 9x13 pan and pour the following sauce over top.
Sauce:
1 1/2 c. brown sugar, packed
2 TBS. flour
1 c. water
1/4 c. butter
1 tsp. vanilla
Combine sugar and flour in saucepan. Add water, butter and vanilla. Bring to boil and boil gently for 3 minutes, stirring constantly. Pour sauce over batter. *Do not stir*.
Bake at 325° for 1 hour.
Serve warm with ice cream or whipped cream.Recipe
