    Fudgy Brownies

    • 1/2 cup butter (no substitutes)
    • 4 squares (1 ounce each) unsweetened chocolate
    • 2 cups sugar
    • 4 eggs, beaten
    • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
    • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
    • 1/2 teaspoon salt
    • 2 cups chopped pecans, optional
    • Confectioners' sugar, optional


    Instructions


    1. In a heavy saucepan, melt the butter and chocolate; stir until smooth. Remove from the heat. Stir in sugar. Add eggs and vanilla; mix well. Stir in flour and salt. Add pecans if desired.

    2. Spread into two greased 8-in. square baking pans. Bake at 325 for 35-40 minutes or until a toothpick inserted near the center comes out clean.

    3. Cool on a wire rack. Dust with confectioners' sugar if desired. Cut into bars.

    4. Yield: 32 brownies.
