    Mac's Mac and Cheese

    1 pound box large elbow macaroni
    1 pound block New York extra-sharp cheddar cheese
    8 ounces cream cheese
    2 tablespoons butter
    2 beaten large eggs
    1/8 - 1/4 cup milk or half-and-half
    Salt and pepper to taste
    1/4 - 1/2 cup seasoned bread crumbs

    Recipe



    Preheat oven to 350 degrees. In a large pot of boiling water, cook macaroni according to package directions and drain. Cut cheddar and cream cheese into cubes. To macaroni add butter, cheeses, eggs, milk, salt and pepper. Mix well. Pour into greased 9-by-13-inch pan. Top with seasoned bread crumbs. Bake 30 minutes.


    This recipe won first place in the Atlanta Journal-Constitution's "Best Macaroni and Cheese Contest." Submitted by Frankie McCafferty of Dacula GA, the recipe originated with her mother. I sometimes add sauteed chopped onions.
