    Season a Cast Iron Skillet

    Source of Recipe

    Recipe Introduction

I used to love cooking with Cast Iron pans and Dutch Ovens, but as I've gotten older I prefer to cook with All-Clad Pots, Pans, & Dutch Ovens. They're not as heavy as the Cast Iron, and they clean up a whole lot better.
However, if you're one who likes the heft, feel and result of cooking with Cast Iron this is the way to season an old or new utinsil.

When you're ready to start pre heat the oven to 300°

To season a New or Old Cast Iron Skillet:

Wash in hot water, rinse, dry immediately with paper towling.

Then cover the inside of the skillet with vegetable oil and place in a 300° oven for about 2 hours.

Caution: be careful when removing skillet from oven it will be very, very hot. Wipe out excess oil with paper towling. Reseason if necessary.
