(Drink carbonation kit (such as U-FIZZ)
or:
12 inches narrow flexible plastic piping
2 screw caps with holes to fit tubing
Test tube[or]
Wine, 1 bottle
Baking soda, 1 box
White vinegar, 16 ounces
Funnels
2-liter soda bottles,
750 ml wine bottles for storage, 2 (optional)
Goggles
Recipe
Fill one of the 2-liter bottles, serving as the reaction chamber, with 16 ounces of white vinegar. Fill the other 2-liter bottle, which serves as the carbonation chamber, with the wine you wish to carbonate. Use the funnels to prevent spills.
2
Fill a standard-size test tube with baking soda.
3
Insert the baking soda-filled tube into the reaction chamber, which has the vinegar.
4
Make a hole in each of the screw tops that can accommodate the plastic tubing. Cap the bottles with the screw tops.
5
Connect the bottles by inserting the flexible tubing into the screw-top holes. Squeeze the reaction chamber sightly to bring the gas created by the baking soda and vinegar reaction to the top of the bottle.
6
Shake the carbonation chamber to help the gas and the wine combine.
7
When the reaction between the baking soda and vinegar is complete, detach the two bottles and seal your bottle of newly carbonated wine. You can either store it in the 2-liter soda bottle in which you made it, or transfer it to a 750 ml wine bottle and seal it in that.
