Make a sponge of;
2 C scalded milk, cool to lukewarm
3 C flour
2 pkgs yeast
Let rise until light.
Beat until light and fluffy;
1/2 C shortening
1/2 C sugar
2 tsp salt
Stir into sponge and add 4 cups flour (about), to make a dough stiff enough to knead. Knead until smooth and elastic. Let rise until doubled. Roll out 1/4 inch thick and cut out. Let rise until very light. Fry at 360 degrees F. to golden brown,
