    1 C boiling water
    1 C chopped dates
    1 tsp baking soda
    1 C sugar
    1/4 C butter
    1 beaten egg
    1 tsp vanilla
    1 1/2 C flour
    1 tsp baking powder
    1/2 tsp salt
    1/2 c chopped nuts

    Recipe



    Pour boiling water over chopped dates and baking soda. Let stand while mixing the remaining ingredients together in usual manner. Pour into a 9x12 inch pan. Bake 30-35 minutes at 350 degrees F.

    Icing;
    5 T brown sugar
    5 T cream
    2 T butter

    Boil about 3 minutes and spread on cake. Will be thin. Sprinkle with coconut and nuts. One can make more frosting and "pack" on the nuts.
