    Recipe Introduction

    3 nine inch layers.

    List of Ingredients

    1/2 C butter
    1 1/2 C sugar
    3 eggs
    2 oz unsweetened chocolate
    1/2 C strong black coffee
    2 C flour
    1 tsp baking soda
    1/2 tsp salt
    1 T vinegar
    1/2 C strong black coffee
    1 tsp vanilla


    Recipe

    Cream butter and add sugar gradually. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well.

    Heat chocolate and half cup of coffee together until the chocolate dissolves. Beat this into the sugar butter mixture.

    Sift together the flour, salt, and soda three times. Sift in a little of the flour mixture and beat again. Then add remaining flour mixture alternately with one half cup black coffee until all is used. Add vinegar and beat well. Add vanilla.

    Divide between three layer pans. Bake in a moderate oven for 25-30 minutes.

    Topping

    1/3 C heavy cream
    1 T prepared coffee
    1 T rich cocoa
    2 tsp sugar.

    Combine and chill. When thoroughly chilled, add 2/3 C heavy cream and whip. Spread between layers and on top of cake.
