    Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.

    List of Ingredients




    4 C apples, pared, cored and sliced
    1 C sugar
    1 T flour
    1 tsp cinnamon
    2 T butter
    2 T water
    1 T lemon juice

    Recipe



    Combine the above and cook over medium heat until apples are tender. Pour into a well greased 13x9x2 inch pan.

    Sift together;
    2 1/4 C flour
    1 tsp ginger
    2 tsp baking powder
    1/2 tsp salt
    Blend in 1/2 C shortening and 1 C sugar, creaming well.
    Add 2 eggs, beat 1 minute.
    Blend in 2/3 C milk.
    Place half of batter in second bowl.
    Blend in 1/4 C molasses
    1 tsp cinnamon
    1/2 tsp each cloves, nutmeg and baking soda.
    Spoon dark and light batters alternately over apples in pan.
    Bake 50-60 minutes. Cool 15-20 minutes in pan then invert onto a cake platter. (upside down apple cake).
