    Ping Qua But See-toffee apples

    Recipe Introduction

    Also called Glazed silk thread apples.

    List of Ingredients

    3 medium size apples
    3 T flour
    1/2 C egg white
    3 T cornstarch
    4 T peanut oil
    1 C water
    2 C sugar
    1 T honey

    Recipe

    Core the apples and cut into 6-8 pieces.
    Mix egg whites into flour and cornstarch and beat into a batter, then dip the apples into this mixture and cover well. Divide into 3 lots. Deep fat fry for 2 1/2 minutes. Drain.
    Heat the ingredients for the syrup, adding the oil first. Cook to a thick syrup. Dip the apples in this syrup for 3-4 minutes then quickly dip into cold water, remove from water quickly and place on serving plate. this makes a crackly crust.
    During the last minute of cooking you can add sesame seeds or chopped peanuts if desired.
    Other fruits can be done this way also, bananas, peaches, pears and pineapple.
