    List of Ingredients

    7 C flour
    1 T ginger
    1 tsp nutmeg
    3/4 C water
    2 tsp baking soda
    1 C shortening
    1 T salt
    1 tsp cloves
    1/2 tsp allspice
    1/4 C dark rum
    2 C dark molasses
    2 C sugar

    Recipe

    Sift dry ingredients together. Combine water with rum, baking soda and molasses. Cream shortening and sugar. Add dry ingredient, water mixture and molasses mixture in 2 editions, mixing well after each one. Chill dough overnight. On well floured board, roll out 1/4-1/2 inch thick, cut with 4 inch cutter and place on greased cookie sheets. Bake at 375 degrees F. 10-12 minutes. Remove and cool. Store in covered container.
