    2 cakes yeast
    1/4 C lukewarm water
    1/2 C sugar
    1 tsp salt
    1/2 C butter
    2 eggs, well beaten
    1 C milk
    1 tsp, grated lemon rind
    5 C sifted flour
    chopped nuts or fruit
    Brown sugar
    butter
    cardamom

    Recipe



    Soften the yeast in the lukewarm milk while mixing the other ingredients. Add butter, sugar and salt to the hot milk and cool to lukewarm. Add the rest of the ingredients and mix to a soft dough, just stiff enough to handle. Knead until smooth and satiny. Place in greased bowl and let rise to double. Knead down and form into 2 oblong shaped pieces. Spread with soft butter, sprinkle with cardamom and cover with chopped nuts or fruit. Roll up jelly roll fashion and shape like a pretzel. Clip 1/4 of the way into the dough on the out side edges at even intervals of say 1 inch apart. Let rise to double. bake at 375 degrees F.
